The Festival BD de Montréal is outdoors! And it’s super friendly! (Taken with instagram)
Montreal! This weekend is the Festival BD de Montréal, and I’ll be there all day tomorrow at Espace Fanzine (and then in and out from events at 1PM and 5PM). If I’m not at my table, Pierre-Luc will be there to greet you and send me hate mail in your stead <3
It is a francophone festival, but I’ll have some English copies as well. I hope to see you there!
Dangerous apparatus
With all my apologies
Movie Trailer of the Day: The King’s Speech’s Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper helms the big-screen version of Les Misérables, the global stage sensation set in 19th-century France.
Hugh Jackman is ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe). Then Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Anne Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), and all their lives change forever.
In theaters December 14.

Reblogging because EXCITED.
You guys know I’m nuts for this musical. I’m trying not to expect too much of this (Russell Crowe as Javert is my biggest concern, I doubt he can really pull it off, but who knows). I’m well aware that singing on a stage and on screen is a different thing, which is also why I’m very happy to learn that Helena Bonham Carter plays Madame Thénardier — she can’t really sing but the character doesn’t need huge vocals. Sacha Baron Cohen as Monsieur Thénardier is also a match made in heaven. And Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean is much more interesting than Liam Neeson will ever be and isn’t Anne Hathaway’s performance poignant or what and aaaah
I rarely go all political on you guys, but what’s happening in Quebec right now needs to be shared. I’m not the best to explain it — in short, students have been striking and protesting against a tuition hike for more than 100 days. To kill the conflict, the government passed Bill 78, a law that restricts freedom of assembly, protest, or picketing for anyone, not just students. To be for or against the tuition hike and the student protests is one thing, but that law violates fundamental freedoms of association, assembly, and expression and has been condemned as one of the worst bills ever passed.
To protest against it, citizens (and not just students!) have been marching in the streets hitting on pans and casseroles every evening, wearing the strike’s red square symbol. The atmosphere in these marches is joyful, festive and friendly. Even the biggest thunderstorm didn’t slow us down!
I’m sorry this comic isn’t as funny as usual, but I just had to pay the protests a little homage. It’s my own little way to show support. <3
For those interested, here is a very thorough article about the protests in the New York Times. Also, this video is absolutely beautiful and illustrates well the casserole marches!
Because when you name a file BLARGH0004.jpg, it’s only gonna be stupid floating heads full of scanned eraser crumbs. The terrified Etienne cracks me up. And fanart for Sam.
Eee! Them sad kids down there are my characters Florence and Auguste, from my graphic novel! Florence looks so badass and Auguste so vulnerable. Love.
“…Seriously?”
“Lagostina pans are expensive…”

For the past four or five days, people protesting about the new special law and supporting the students in their ongoing strike against tuition fee hikes, have been invited to bang on pots and casseroles each night at 8pm. As I’m typing this, the sound of the pots and pans are echoing in my neighorhood, along with some firecrackers and the siren of police cars. I thought of what my old OCs would do in this situation, being students themselves (well, only Étienne, the middle one, in this case). Étienne is too much of a rich son of a bitch to be a credible protester though and the fact that he wraps his spoon in a sock doesn’t help his image. And Edwin, he just likes noise and hitting stuff with a crowbar.
The student strike has been going on for more then 100 days now. I won’t attempt to summarize the issue but if you want to read about it:
YES, PERFECT
This is kinda super cute and super scary all at once
